We had the good fortune to see the 2010 Academy Award winner ("Best Foreign Film") on Saturday night and it's worthy of the accolades.
The Argentine movie's plot revolves around a criminal investigator, played by Ricardo Darin, who decides to write a book about a 25-year-old case that haunted him and a judge, Soledad Villamil. Darin's torment is a central theme, but I think supporting actor Guillermo Francella steals the show, with his portrayal of Darin's alcoholic office mate.
The movie leaps and wanders in various directions - never dull. There's a great scene in a soccer stadium. There's the hint of 70s era dictatorship politics. There is a recurring iterary/visual trick with the capital letter "A". If you understand spanish, you'll enjoy rich dialogue. Finally, a twist in the movie's climax that leaves you fulfilled.
I think the same, Francella steals every scene he is in. (LOL when he answer the phone). I specially like the scene in the car when they are returning to Buenos Aires from Chivilcoy. XD.
