The smell of benzine permeated my neighborhood today as a Chevron oil line ruptured near Red Butte Gardens and poured into the "gully" three houses down from ours. It's an environmental disaster with fish floating dead on the water and 150+ birds getting emergency baths up at Hogle Zoo - right now at nearly 10:30pm on a Saturday night.
Liberty Park is closed. The gully is closed. Our friends across the street whose houses sit above the creek are outraged.
An urban oil spill. Who would have imagined? It's a nightmare! Salt Lake Tribune coverage.
Very sad and surprising. I'll follow this story with interest!
